Top 5 benefits of drinking water

1. Drink water for better performance during physical performance

According to a research conducted by the Shanghai University of Sport, being dehydrated can be a negative impact on workouts, which are longer than 30 minutes. During a workout, your body can lose around 2% of body water, through sweat. This can lead to less motivation and concentration, headaches, fatigue and you might feel that is more difficult to perform the exercises. For this reason, I always recommend hydrating yourself during your workout routine.

2. No more toxins

During your workout you sweat, which helps your body to flush the toxins. You will also eliminate toxins through urination, thus preventing infections and kidney related health issues.

3. Your skin will glow

When you drink water oxygen and nutrients are delivered to your skin cells. This helps moisturising your skin, giving its elasticity and glow. Moreover, you will delay the wrinkling process and eliminate skin health issues such as eczema, psoriasis and other disorders.

4. Helps with weight loss

According to a study consumption of water 30 minutes before the meal is effective for weight loss as it makes you feel fuller and it reduces your appetite to eat.

Also, it is important to stop drinking juices full of sugar and hydrate yourself with water instead. Sweetened juices and sodas will not hydrate you and will make you feel thirsty. Having so many calories these are not helping you to lose weight either, not to mention that processed sugar is not good for our bodies. I recommend to my clients to drink water instead, as you will feel hydrated and it has no calories! You can make the transition easy by adding fruits and herbs (like mint) into your water.

5. More energy, good brain functions and less headaches

Your brain is around 70% water. When dehydrated, some functions of your brain can suffer. Studies show that when you lose water, during normal daily activities and during workouts, you will experience headaches, mood swings, it will be harder to concentrate and your memory can be affected.

How much water should I drink

Though you might hear that you should drink at least 2L of water per day, the amount will be different from person to person. The quantity depends on one’s weight, how much they sweat, their daily schedule and so on. However, it has been agreed by the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, that men should drink daily approx. 3.7 L while women should consume around 2.7 L. You can get 20% of your water from vegetables, fruits and other healthy foods. The rest should be water or other non-alcoholic drinks.
